Confused

Hi.. I'm new to OS X, and I was wondering if there is anyway to get iTunes to get music straight from my NAS drive, and then be able to sync with my iPod? Or will I have to copy all the music into my iTunes media folder?

preferences - advanced - un tick the first two boxes and just add the music from the drive you wish to play it from.
