I recently bought a new 12cm case fan. It's an Arctic Cooling F12 PWM but I'm confused about what the instructions are telling me. It has a 4 pin plug, a 4 pin socket and a 3 pin power plug. It's telling me to remove the CPU cooler plug and replace with the 4 pin plug from fan and then plug the cpu hs into the 4 pin socket on the fan and the 3 pin(optional) to the motherboard for readings.
This much I can understand, and even how to add a second fan to the system.

However, this can only work if the other fan is identical. I have an Akasa smart fan which olny has one 4 pin plug and therefore a link can't be created in the same manner as the AC one. I have the Akasa PWM splitter cable but I'm not sure how to go about using it as the configuration seems different to the AC one. For starters, it has a 4 pin molex which the AC one doesn't and I'm kinda left wondering why there's a difference and why the Akasa system needs to be hooked up the PSU yet the AC one doesn't.

So in general. I'm pretty confused.

Does it sound right that I should plug the 4 pin plug on the AC fan to the CPU_FAN on the mobo?

How do I go about using the Akasa splitter cable to incorperate the the 2 fans and the cpu fan safely?

Sorry it this is noobish but I'd rather appear dumb than tinker with something I don't fully understand and make a **** up.

Any help appreciated. Cheers. Mike.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to do but sounds like trying to hook up multiple fans to run on the cpu pwm signal

To answer your two questions though

Does it sound right that I should plug the 4 pin plug on the AC fan to the CPU_FAN on the mobo?

Depends, where will the fan be? If it will be on the heatsink yes definately.

How do I go about using the Akasa splitter cable to incorperate the the 2 fans and the cpu fan safely?

The akasa splitter works by drawing power through the molex plug to power the fans while the pwm signal comes from the motherboard. It should come with labels on but if not, plug the 4 pin female into the motherboard, the molex to the psu and connect 4 pin males upto fans. Though I don't know how well it will work with different fans on.

Tbh I've no idea what I'm doing. The Arctic Cooling system of linking multiple case fans incl. the cpu cooler just from the motherboard without any other power i.e. the psu just don't seem right.

Ah well, I'll try the Akasa splitter cable as that seems best bet.

Thanks
