I have a turntable with built in preamp which is connected to the back of my microlab solo 6c, I would like to be able to listen to the turntable on headphones and also switch to the speakers.

The turntable does not have a headphone socket and neither do the speakers.

I think I need some sort of amplifier but I'm not sure what would be best a DAC/headphone amp/receiver???

Thanks :)

Schiit Magni 2 Uber (£140) has pre-amp out

You would connect your deck to this via RCA cables, then RCA cables from the Magni to the speakers. When you insert headphones into the Magni it switches to the headphones.

Not sure how you are currently changing the volume but would assume it's using the speakers' controls so the Magni 2 Uber would add a more convenient volume control know on the desktop.

There are obviously cheaper alternatives but the Magni 2 Uber would also give you an exceptional headphone amplifier, with gain switching, that is capable of driving pretty much any headphone you throw at it.

Thanks for the suggestion but I went for the B-Tech Bt928 for £30, it has the same connections as that Schiit but much cheaper.

Fair enough, I suggested the Schiit because you were connecting a record deck and audio quality was more likely to be an issue.
