Confusing question about DVI-D cables

Right, so i just bought a new card and i was wondering whether i have the right cable and monitor.

So; the new card has one dual-link DVI-I (the one with the 4 dots) port on the back. I have a monitor with only one dual-link DVI-D port (the one with a slot/straight line). I have a DVI-I to DVI-I cable.

Question is, will i still be able to use that cable? Or do i need to get a new cable such as a DVI-I to DVI-D cable (does that exist and if so, will it work?).

Or will i have to buy a completely new monitor, as mine doesn't have a HDMI port.

Cheers.

I got this from the nvidia site: "NVIDIA based graphics cards which carry a DVI-I connector are fully compatible with flat panel LCD monitors which typically have DVI-D cables. The DVI-D cable will only read the digital signal from the DVI-I connector on the graphics card and ignore the analog signal"

So will my DVI-D cable still plug into my new card, which has a DVI-I port, meaning that my monitor (with only a DVI-D port) will still display image?

This is the cable i have

Yes, that'll work :)

The only times you have issues with DVI cables is when the male one has the dash line and the pins above and below it and the female one is just the dash.

So basically, if it physically fits, it will work :)

IIRC the 4 pins carry an analogue signal for legacy reasons. All DVI sockets *should* have empty holes for those pins, even if though most won't use them.

So yeah, as was said above, if it physically fits it'll be fine.
