the OCuk Site has the following:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz Guaranteed to run at 3.00GHZ (1333FSB) - Retail - £140.99 inc vat

AND

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz Guaranteed to run at 3.30GHZ (1466FSB) - Retail - £187.99 inc VAt

What is the difference and why can one be guaranteed to be clocked at 3.0ghz and the other at 3.3ghz

?????

What is the difference...

ones guranteed to overclock to 3.00Ghz+ the other is guranteed to overclock to 3.30Ghz+ :-/ kinda obvious.....

why can one be guaranteed to be clocked at 3.0ghz and the other at 3.3ghz?

as far as i know there tested??? and see how stable they are at those speeds...

they aren't. no difference. ocuk just send you a normal one, 2.4ghz.

Since almost 99.999999999% run at 3Ghz they are charging the extra just in case it doesn't and they get one returned.

Same with the 3.3Ghz but they are charging slightly more as the odds increase slightly that a normal one out of the box won'y hit 3.3Ghz.

They will just sell off the returns as B stock anyway and still won't lose any money.

Nope. Sealed boxes as they come from Intel. No testing done.

I have yet to see a q6600 which doesn't hit 3Ghz on any forum. Yes people do post struggling to get 3.3Ghz stable but that is because it needs a few more tweaks in bios with voltages to get it stable at 3.3Ghz. Q6600 just do 3Ghz by changing the FSB to 333Mhz and everything else left on auto.

That's why you get an overclocking guide with the cpus.

Failing that ocuk technical will talk you through hitting 3.3Ghz. ANother reason why they charge a bit more.

thanks..so they are the same and i can save £40.
have you overclocked one of these?

See my sig ;)

That's a stock, standard none overcharged q6600.

Of course, that is on water and your are unlikely to get 3.8Ghz on air (unless you have extreme air cooling) but 3-3.3Ghz will be well within your reach.

There is a thread currently on the overclocking section where somebody who couldn't get past 2.8Ghz with his q660 is now up to 3.4Ghz I beleive with lots of helpful advice on this forum.

I got some help from this forum yesterday with overclocking, seems it was just me making a stupid error on something i forgot xD

Got it to 3.3-3.4 ish now so gonna keep it like that till i get a new cooler. Just make sure you get a decent one :P
