Confusion - Source and destination IP addresses

Hi,

I'm hoping someone could shed some light on something for me. I have a job where we are putting 100+ devices onto a network.

We haven't installed the network and have nothing to do with the network, we have provided them MAC address and also the Port numbers they are plugged into and have asked for the IP addresses.

However the customer has stated that they can provided the IP Addresses for the equipment, however they will need the source and destination IP addresses.

From my understanding the source address is the device sending data and the destination is the device receiving data - in this case it has a PC that control things i.e the source address and the control unit device would be the destination address. However they also have two way traffic.

Going back to my previous statement though, the IP address are being supplied by the network provided and not us, so I'm a little confused as to what they require from us.

Hopefully someone may be able to shed some light on it for me, or confirm I'm not going crazy or explain something I'm missing!

Thanks in advanced!

Source is usually the client in the equation and the destination the "host" which usually means the host is listening on a given IP for traffic from a source - it will also send traffic back to the source if it is the host.
