Conjuring The Last Rites

This one looks like a return to form after the disappointment of the third instalment - this one looks seriously creepy, can't wait :)

My review from the daily film thread:

The Conjuring: Last Rites (at the cinema)

Likable paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren deal with yet more spooky things plaguing a(nother) helpless family.

Passable. The cast are all quite good but the material just isn't fresh enough to warrant revisiting the series unless you want 'more of the same'.

This time around there is a lot of emphasis on the relationships in the family and this takes up a pretty hefty amount of screentime, to the point where I felt like the film was quite slow at times.

When spooky things do happen, there is nothing exciting for those familiar with the territory. The ghost designs feel uninspired. The plot re-treads the usual things and nothing is unexpected. The foreshadowing felt very laboured and you could see all set-ups from a mile away.

Still, you can do a lot worse and if you only like to dabble in horror you might enjoy it. It's certainly a lot better than the last Insidious film... that was terrible.

5.5/10

Was a decent enough ending to the series, as above did feel like nothing new was done here apart from them took longer to build tension up and less jump scares overall.

Didn't expect the cameos from previous films at the end but with it being the last one did think they might do something like that

I agree with e above

The emphasis on the relationships in the family, felt forced you don't feel any connection.
"When spooky things do happen, there is nothing exciting"

The Fact they keep changing "Judy" Is noticeable, I think they should have had "Mckenna Grace" come back she was the most memorable.

I thought the starting build up was good, but it started to drift a bit, nothing new was done, it started to feel a little rushed in some parts, the ending was lacking, it was not a satisfying end.
The material just isn't fresh enough to warrant revisiting, the demon and the story is not memorable beyond the mirror.

I would say it was a 5.0/10
