my three monitors all use dvi. am i best off with 2 display port adaptors, or do i get a dual link dvi cable and one display port.

Also all monitors are at 1080

i have no idea :D info plz

Are you sure you have 1 DP and 2 mini DP? Are you 100% positive that the one you think is DP isn't HDMI? That's an unusual configuration of ports on a graphics card.

no your right its an hdmi port.

no hdmi is not flat on one side
display flat on one side

They are both flat on one side...

The top side of each is flat.

Anyway, with regards to the topic, you will need a form of display port to DVI adapter, for the third monitor, and you can connect the other two by HDMI and DVI, though you'll need a DVI to HDMI cable if your monitor doesn't have HDMI in.

yep and in imagination land where the flat TOP is a side your right. (its ok to be wrong sometimes)

Any way. thanks for the advice.
so one DVI, one HDMI to DVI and one display to DVI. that is the bast way?

You said "it's flat on one side, so it can't be HDMI". I'm not the one that's wrong here, I also wouldn't say that display port is "flat on one side" as a valid descriptor, as you're describing one side only, it doesn't actually tell you anything else. A Display Port cable is in fact flat on 3 sides, with one side having a bevelled edge. "Flat on one side" actually describes nearly all cables that carry a video signal, hence my point.

But at least you know what to do know.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure if your monitors don't have Display Ports on them you'll need to get hold of two 'Active' Display Port adaptors to connect the monitors up.

I believe the AMD cards only require 1 monitor to run with 'active' Displayport (ie. active adapter or direct DP connection)

I've now got 3 monitors on my 7990, 1 uses the DP directly, 1 uses a passive adapter from DP to DVI and the final one uses the DVI output.
(well, I'm 99% sure it's a passive adapter, given it cost around £10)

Obviously, get a second opinion one this to be sure it applies to the 280x as well, but a passive adapter is much cheaper than an active one.

On my 7970 I am useing 1 x HDMI to HDMI 1 x DVI to HDMI and 1 x DP to HDMI with an active display port adapter and the adapter is only £20 OC UK don't sell these any more so just do a search if you get stuck look at that body of water named after the rain Forrest :)
