hello, i would just like to know a few things,

1. what kind of games will this card play
2. how long will this card last running medium or above at 1440x900
3. i can get this for £110, is there anything better for this price or slightly more

thanks in advance

The card will play pretty much any game that isn't DX10 only (e.g. all of them currently).

What settings you run will depend entirely on the game and how graphically demanding it is as well as how good the rest of your system is. 1440x900 is slightly less demanding in terms of pixels used than 1280x1024 so it should last for a fair while but the question is akin to "how long is a piece of string". I don't know what types of game you like to play nor do I know the minimum requirements of future games exactly so it is very very difficult to put any meaningful figures to it. I'll guess at maybe a year to two at the outset assuming you play games that aren't DX10 only - there aren't likely to be huge numbers of them for a while.

That is probably as good as you will get for the price unless you wish to wait for the 8600, how good it is I'm not entirely sure yet although I believe there are some benchmarks floating around. :)

You should be able to get a secondhand x1900xt 512mb / x1900xt-x 512mb or 7900gtx for £110 very easy..

Might be worth being careful with Connect3D, people been having a lot of issues with them recently (on the 1950 cards)

Highly recommend doing this. 512mb will help more with high resolutions and maybe generally in upcoming titles. Also most x1900xt's OC well past XTX speeds.

I use to run my x1900xt-x at 690/800...don't know if it would have gone any higher as this was the max ATi overdrive would go up to...

can't seem to find them retail in my price range, or on a certain auction site,

did find an x1900xtx 512mb at £185 but i could get an nvidia 8800gts 320mb for that money

i'd rather get ati, since i have never bought nvidia, and i fear change lol

edit: i found an x1900xt 256mb for £150 is less ram worth if?

I bought my x1900xt 512mb a while ago for £130 2nd hand. Im sure you could picked one up for close to £100-110 now.

i saw an x1900xt 512mb, in one of those 2nd hand places in town i could trade in some old crappy dvds and games and pick it up for £120 is it worth it?

And when they send them back they're taking 2 months+ to get RMA replacements apparently. Could you be without a graphics card for 10-14 weeks if it broke? Sounds like a brand to avoid.

HIS and powercolour are taking about the same time....

hi

returned a Powercolor x1900xt to Overclockers which was received on the 03/03/07 and then sent on to Powercolor. I have not yet recieved a replacement or even an Email from Powercolor or Overclockers and am wondering what other peoples experience has been lately with returning video cards to Powercolor.

Am not saying anything bad about Overclockers and realise it is out of their hands. It is of course down to Powercolor and their turnaround speed.

Appreciate hearing of other peoples experiences.

Cheers

It normally takes up to 6 weeks mate, infact HIS took 9 weeks to ship me a replacement X1800XT back from Taiwan.

Prior to the RMA, HIS were top of my list everytime when it came to buying ATI cards, but the nightmare experiance

coupled with their recent fan rattling duff X19 series has put me off HIS for life.

If you're outside the 28 day purchase period then 4 weeks is (unfortunately) deemed to be still within the boundaries

of acceptable (personally I ended up caving in and buying a totally unnecessary x1900xt). :)

GL.

Edited due to the outcome of this thread and I didn't want my orignal post to be misinterpreted.

No, at each stage everyone has been 100% clear that OcUK have sent the cards off, and I would automatically avoid any brand that takes 8-14 weeks to RMA something.

EVGA and BFG both turn cards around inside 5-10 working days and EVGA will send you the new card and collect your old one at the same time. Sometimes price isn't the last word - even on identical chipset devices.

But EVGA & BFG don't do ATI video cards...
