Hi guys, this is the scenario:

Sky Router with two Ethernet ports - both in use.
1 x 1TB My Book Live which is Ethernet only (no wifi)

How can I quickly, and cost effectively connect this to the network so that it is accessible, without disconnecting the other two ethernet ports? (I also have a power point issue around where the router is so getting it away from there is the other reason...)

2nd router? Wifi bridge with an ethernet port?

I'm a bit ropey on networking so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Buy a cheap unmanaged switch and link the router to the switch. Then plug everything else into the switch. It’s just like a power cable extension lead.

I would buy a 1GbE one as you’ll see a benefit passing data from a wired PC to the wired NAS but if the Sky router isn’t 1GbE then you’ll see no benefit for anything plugged into that.

For the difference in cost I’d get the 8 port version (unless you’re sure you’ll never use the extra ports).

When you connect the switch you effectively waste two ports with the interconnect so adding a 5 port switch only gains you 3 ports.
