connect to mate via internet? help

Can I connect to my mate who is 1 ,mile away using the internet? We would like to pass files between each computer? Any help would be appriciated.

FTP's a no-brainer, SFTP's the same again with some encryption over the top. SCP's similar idea, but down an SSH tunnel, and FlashFXP's probably a bit pointless for what you're out to do.
Anyone can go google what they mean too.

Mostly depends on what the hell you intend to do with it. For a one off, setting up a server's a lot overkill.

In the same way that anyone can put an acronym into google to find out what they mean and how they work?

I think RomeoS's suggestion is the closest to what you want.

Like - that *is* the internet! Use MSN, or email, or FTP servers (google for the good ones), I dunno. What exactly is it you want to do?
