Hello again,

I have two desktops on my network. One runs Windows 7 Home Premium the other Windows 7 Professional.

I cannot connect to my router from the Home Premium machine in any of three browsers. I get 'Server not found'.

There is no problem connecting from the Windows 7 Pro machine..

Router is TP-Link TD-8960N.

Network is fine otherwise.

Can the desktop in question access the internet and other network services fine? Is it just you cant log on to the router via a browser?

Just that. The LAN and the Internet work perfectly from both computers (and tablets etc) - just this W7 Home Prem machine which can't access the router via any browser although it can access anything else I require with any one of
the three browsers I have installed.

Further to this:

192.168.1.1 pings Ok.

Going to http://192.168.1.1 got me (once) to the router signin screen. Putting the user and password details gave 'Forbidden' and 'Illegal referer'. I've checked using the other machine and user and password details I'm using are correct.

Security issue? Kaspersky Internet Security on the problem machine and Comodo (full version) on the other.

The IP/MAC address of the Home Premium machine may have been blocked by the router?

Can't have been otherwise the other machine wouldn't have been able to connect and I wouldn't have been able to ping it successfully.

I was able to connect to it yesterday, once and once only, from the problem machine, but it can't find it again today.

I've just entered http://192.168.1.1/ into the address bar, and it found the page, but the page colours were all wrong and gave the 403 Forbidden and Illegal referer errors after my entering the login details.

Later - curiouser and curioser: with the above errors there is a blue link 'microhttpd' which when clicked brings up an advert requesting a donation of five dollars to support 'Acme Labs'.

Putting http://192.168.1.1 into Pale Moon and Internet Explorer, now brings up the correct modem access page, so I suspect skullduggery somwhere, the
suspect being Firefox, which is easily enough reinstalled.

Did a 'refresh' on Firefox which cleared the problem.

Thanks to all who responded.
