Just got my card today and put it in tonight. It all fires up (fan's going) but nothing on the monitor. I have tried both dvi slots and nothing. As soon as I put my X850XT back in it's up and running straight away. I have an enermax noisetaker 600w psu. Could this be the problem? I have tried uninstalling old drivers and adding new ones but nothing again. Stumped so need help please.

Just read a thread somewhere else about the dvi being on digital input. I think it might be this so I will try it.

That psu is more than enough, i know it sounds silly but have you plugged in the power to the card via the pci express 6 pin plug?

Yep, it was plugged in.

Just looked at the box and it says dual dvi-i connections ( what a wally!!). I only have a dvi-d single link cable at the moment. Which dvi-i cable do I now need - single or dual?

that should be right mate, you dont need another cable. sorry to say buy its sounds like the card is a dud mate

Got the card working now but I had to put it into the bottom pci-e slot of my mb (DFI Ultra D). Should the card work in the top pci-e slot? Is there some setting in BIOS I should change? My previous card was in that slot and worked okay. Also, is there any performance loss having the card in the bottom slot?

a lot of mb have the master and slave pci e slots miss labled
asus use the bottom slot on the a8r-mvp if that helps

performance wise , well at this time you have a 100% increase using the bottom slot :D

just bench it and compare the results

I had a similar fault when I assembled my new rig, drove me nuts, I even rma'd what turned out to be a perfectly good card and had the exact same problem with the replacement.

In the end it turned out that my motherboard (same as yours) was shorting. I put it back together and used those little insulating washers that go beween the motherboard and the mounting screws and it works fine now.

I've been using this motherboard for nearly a year now and the X850XT card I have is in the top slot. RMA'd it anyway so I'll wait to see what the replacement is like, if that doesn't work I'll try what you did.
