Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 GT

Even if you go for it you won't be disapointed, the difference between them is small in the real world and even if the theoretical advantage it will gain in future games doesn't happen, it'll still be scrapping at the X1800 XTs heels :)

There's also the chance of unlocking that final quad which has been done on a select few GT's bringing them inline with the 1900XT (12 to 16). Even so with the added cooling of the HIS I think an overclocked GT will be on par with the X1800 in current games.

An OCed X1900GT will easily surpass a stock X1800XT. :) It's apples vs. oranges, but it's a valid reason for anybody who is already very interested in the X1900GT as-is due to the extra shader power and cooler and whatnot.

To be honest I've always thrown a ArcticCooler on my cards, I love the design and the way hot air is expelled out of the case but in complete silence!

HIS have a very strong selling point with their cooler and to be honest is one of the major reasons for me taking a shine to the GT.

I agree, those IceQ 3s are bloody gorgeous. :) I am looking into buying an X1900XT soon and I don't know wether to keep my VF900 and get a Connect3D or sell my VF900 and go HIS. Leaning toward the HIS, just don't know how well they OC as I've only seen and heard the IceQ 3 never OCed on one.

Though you can overclock the 1800 too easily so it might be the winner when both overlocked

I didn't bother mentioning that because I think he's heart-set on the X1900GT and its IceQ 3 cooler. Since the X1800XT never came with one, it's irrelevent.

And this is coming from an X1800XT owner (well, until I broke it.)

Personally i think the 1800XT is the best choice for someone who doesn't want to spend a lot on a card. It's poweful, highly overclockable and cheap. It will last everyone for a while till DX10 cards are well out as with the upcoming R600 and hoping that this will be a proper monster not like X1950. Getting something cheap, selling it afterwards for a R600 and you shall set foot in 2007 with a Vista ready card :D . That's my plan anyway. For those who got tons of cash i would go for the X1950 or GX2 straight away and sell it afterwards for a R600 IF it's going to be a monster perfomance wise.

BUT BUT BUT

u didn't mention here an important point !!!
the X1900GT is sooooooooo HOT !!!
saw some reviews it's 90 C when oc ....and at stock (not running any games) it hits 55C !!!

it's toooo HOT !

btw what's the X1800XT temps? (didn't check reviews yet)?

Those temperatures are rather overstated. My X1800XT used to hit 85ºC at a maximum with the stock cooler, and about 72ºC when I fitted a Zalman VF900-CU.

The X1900GT runs a bit cooler than an X1800XT, and I imagine most people who buy an X1900GT go for the HIS version with the IceQ 3 cooler anyway so temperature is largely irrelevent in that case.

The cards themselves can easily operate at 90ºC though, in fact they're designed for it.

yea but ...

the problem is that the heat that comes from the cards make my hole ROOM soooooo HOT i can DIE !
and i got only 63 C with my GTO2

wow X1800XT hits 85 !!?? omg and i wanted to buy it
