Connect3d - do they suck?

A few months back I was running on my 800xl and decided I was going to upgrade so I went with a 7900gt initially. I was very happy with the card in all games, though I felt oblivion could be better...

So I sold it and got a Connect3d x1900xt 256MB (From OcUK). the performance from this card has never felt right to me.

Frame rates are high, but nothing feels very smooth. I have been through many things to try and sort it (different Mobo's, New Hiper PSU, etc, etc), but the performance has never felt nearly as smooth as my 7900gt did.

Do Connect3 really just make **** cards? I wish I could return it, but there is nothing "wrong" with the damn thing, I just know its not performing up to scratch.

Does anyone else have (or has had) a card from connect3d? Any problems?

Currently considering getting either 2 x 7900gs (purely for the novelty of just once having SLI) or one 7900gto, maybe just maybe an x1950xtx if I can find one at decent price.

Don't want to spend a lot so, 8800's are out of the question - plus I really am not bothered about getting a DX10 card until about April next year.

Erm, 3D mark 2005 score? Should be atleast 10k.

Processor? Resolution? Mem?

All X1900s are the same, all the X1950XTX is G-DDR4 instead of G-DDR3. The only new card really is the X1950 Pro.

My guess is that the rest of your system is not up to scratch.

Had 2 connect 3d's from OckUK, and performed admirably. My last card was an X1900XT-X *512MB* mind, and that may (or may not) make a difference in such a game as obliviion.
Watch the lil' sweary though;)

HI, and the rest of your system is?

Can I just state, having used a XT1900XT-X, that connect3d make their cards to a ATI standard, infact there are many video card manufacturers out there whose cards look exactly the same because they used the ATI reference card. Therefore your video card should perform more or less equal to others of the same.
I suggest you look up their performance in google, run the same software and see how it compares, with the same hardware components....

Connect3D are fine, used to ahve an old x800 XT PE made by them, was a cracking card. :)

As said above id fully star out that sweary as it not allowed as per the FAQ, and welcome to the forums, and could you list your specs as well so ppl can help better. :)

Have added my system specs to my sig.

my scores on the benchmarks ar all normal for the card, and my general FPS in games is good, its just not smooth. There is a lot of hitching/stuttering, which I never had with the 7900GT. The 7900 I had was also a 256MB card. Even my X800 ran smoother.

Its not something I am going to troubleshoot any more - I have done enough of that...

Really just wanted to know if other people had problems with this brand.

It might be that your PCI-E speed isnt too good?
Although it's not a direct example, back when I was testing out a strange pentium M motherboard, I was able to clock it up fairly well but it didn't keep pci and Agp speeds at 33/66 too well, my 6800gt coped great with the increased Agp speed but the ATI 9700 pro didn't cope well with the increased Agp speed at all, it was stuttering and slowing down in things like 3dmark05 (which went away when I ran the motherboard at normal speeds)

Connect3d are a good brand though, never heard of any quality issues regarding them.

I have two Connect3D cards and they are no trouble at all, the latest being Antx777's old x1900xt-x which works flawlessly and o/c's rather well too. (Thanks Tony)

Check your running process list and make sure that it isn't something else running that's causing your problem, something that may have installed after you got your x1900.

What temps does your card run at? Those cards run very hot and it could be overheating. I had a similar problem with my x1800xt (which has the same cooler) which had normal benchmarks but after a about 10 minutes in a demanding game it would start to stutter and eventually become unplayable.

If you do get a new card then maybe you should think about a 7900gto which is about the same price as a x1900xt 256 and offers similar performace but it runs far cooler and is less likely to have overheating problems if you have a poorly ventilated case. You could also try increasing the fan speed in ati tool for the mean time or try improving your case airflow.

My Connect3D X800XT PE packed up on me, or at least the cooler did.

I'd lost the reciept, and despite a couple of months shooting off an email every fortnight, I never got a reply.

I don't think they fail any more often than other makes, but i'm afraid their support seems to be nothing but a pile of rubbish.

Its not temps - the card never gets above about 75, case well ventilated

Its not the board - tried more than one

Its not background processes - same thing after a clean install with nothing but drivers

The only thing that is OCed is the FSB - PCI/PCI-E running at normal clocks.

hopefully will have some money soon, and then will have a look at whats going on Ebay :-)

im gonna go on the assumption that you have 1 gig of ram. and installing ati drivers my system idles with far more ram consumption than it did with the nvidia card on idle at boot up. ccc is the culprit.

then again ati just don;t seem solid to me compared to my old 7900gs which died. the x1900xt i have now doesn;t seem to be a lot faster in the real world.

Coor you read threads well don't you. :\

Connect3D X1900XT 256MB (stock) -- Athlon 64 x2 3800+ (@2.5GHz) -- Foxconn Winfast NF4SK8AA-8KRS SLI mobo -- Creative Audigy 2 ZS
2GB Corsair Platinum (DDR550 @ DDR500) -- 250GB Seagate SATA2 7200.10 -- Hiper Type R 580W PSU

I have no idea what is wrong with his card to be honest.

Tried installing just Cat 6.11s then ATi Tray Tools, settings max performance and no AA and AF and see if its smoother and work from there
