i've got 2 dlink routers (615 iirc the name they come with virgin internet as standard) i've plugged the internet cable into router 1 in sitting room, and then a ethernat cable (think that's the right name) into slot 1 which goes into slot 1 on router 2 upstairs. then a cable goes from slot 2 to my pc.

works fine i had to do nothing to get it to work, however wireless now doesn't work i you're closer to router 2 as it'll pick that one as the one to connect. it connects but says the connection is limited. when closer to router 1 it works fine.

what can i do to sort it?

many thanks

If you’ve connected the two routers LAN-to-LAN then the second router is just acting as a switch. You should be getting DHCP problems, but apparently not.

For basic Internet access for machines connected to either router then a quick and dirty option is…

  1. Make sure the DHCP servers on the two routers are configured to issue different address ranges (e.g. 192.168.1.x & 192.168.2.x).
  2. Connect one of the LAN ports on the first router to the WAN/INTERNET port on the second router.
  3. You may also need to change the wireless settings on one of the routers so they don’t clash.
For a more elegant solution have a search and see if it’s possible to reconfigure the second router as a wireless repeater or access point.

I have two routers connected to each other and get wireless on both with no problems.
The main router is connected to the modem by ethernet in the usual way then all i did was connect one of the four available LAN ports from this router to the WAN port on the second router and it just worked with no fuss.
I have one upstairs and one downstairs in opposits corners of the house so signal strength is always good.

The Inssider software sees both and i just use different channels to spread the spectrum slightly.

EDIT. I am on Virgin cable too.
