connecting 2 switches?

Most switches will automatically set the port used for the cable you use so it shouldn't matter what cable you connect them with. I've always used normal cables.

I think they call it AutoX or something similar.
 
It depends on the switch. Some have an uplink port so you don't need a cross over cable and some are just autosensing. Try it with a normal cable first and if it doesn't work you need a cross over cable.
 
Best practice says to use a crossover. I like to use a crossover when available but many will detect and change accordingly.
