I have just upgraded my home ISP to now include voip and want to connect my old router (Netgear DG834PN) to my new Netgear DG834GV router as I was running out of spare ports on the old router plus I would like to take advantage of the 108Mps transmission speed on the old Netgear DG834PN router as the new DG834GV only transmits at 54Mps.
Here's my intentions; connect the new DG834GV as the primary router as this has voip but only transmits wirelessly at 54Mps then connect the DG834PN to one of the ports on the DG834GV and use this for my wireless network as this router should in theory increase the range of my wireless network.
I would then turn DHCP off on the DG834PN (secoundary router) as DHCP would be handled by the primary router, this would avoid any conflicts etc.
Would the above work ok and what (if any) other settings should I take into account to make this setup work?
I have read that the manufacturers don't recommend connecting two routers together but I can't see any reason as to why it should'nt work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You realise that you will have to use one of the switch ports on the 834PN to connect it to the 834GV?
Whether it's actually worthwhile depends on your wireless clients. They will only work at 108Mbs if they have matching cards to the 834PN. If the clients are only 54Mbs then you're probably wasting your time.

You might encounter a few probs.

You might need to use a crossover cable to connect the two router, not a normal one.

You will have to make sure the two routers are using different IP addresses (but in the same range).

You might have to run ipconfig /all on your PCs to get them to register with the new routers DHCP.
