Got the Xbox 360 on order, it's not come yet but before it does I would just like to know how to connect it to the internet. I have Tesco B/B and connect to the net via the Thomson Speedtouch (I think) modem.

Basically how do you connect, what do you need?

Thanks

If you have a router then its even easier as the router would connect to the modem, so all you do is take a cat5 network cable and plug one end into your xbox and the other into the router. If the router is using DHCP then the xbox should get an ip addy and you should be able to connect straight to xbox live.

If its just the modem you have then you will have to enable internet sharing on your pc and connect the xbox that way.

Actually reading your post again, you dont give any sort of info about your modem and how its connected to your pc ie is it connected via a usb cable or a network cable from your pc to your modem.

Like i said easiest way is connecting it via a router or a switch, which is incidentally how i have mine connected up.

Or if you fancy setting up a wireless network then you can buy the official M$ wireless adaptor.

Mines setup using ICS at the moment, luckily my 360 and PC are close enough together in the front room.

Cable from 360 - PC, enable ICS on PC, slap in an IP on the xbox and all works a treat.

Main problem is having to have the PC on whenever I want to sign in to live, but it's that big an issue really. Oh, and ZoneAlarm refuses to allow the Xbox through so has to be disabled.

Hi, my modem is connected to the PC via the USB port. So telephone cable from filter into modem, modem connected to the PC via USB. Hope that helps.

Hmmm then the only way you could do it is via internet connection sharing method, i dont know how to do this as i have never done it myself.

Personally i would ditch the modem and get a router/modem ie all in one unit...makes life much more easier tbh.

Id suggest a modem/router too, where are the phoneline, PC and 360 going to be in terms of distance from each other?

All within a few feet from each other, not that far at all.

It's very easy to setup internet connection sharing to get the 360 on Live (as long as you have a free NIC)

Have a look on Xbox.com - Took 5 minutes for me to get everything setup and logged into Live.

Eventually I will have to get a router, most likely wireless. But this works perfectly fine for now.

Well its up to you, enabling internet connection sharing or buy a modem with built in router which will set you back about £50. Id go for the router everytime, but its up to you as some people dont waste as much money as me :p
