Connecting 8800gt to an Hannspree 37" HDTV (Bluray/hd-dvd playing)

Hi there, I am looking to get an HDTV and would like to be able to use it to watch movies from my PC on. My graphics card is an EVGA 8800GT which has 2x dvi ports. I know theres a dvi to hdmi cable available, would this be sufficient? I also believe that the new 8800GTS revision has a built in HDMI port.

I am still within my 90 day stepup period so I could upgrade to the GTS, but I'd rather not have to if I can just use the card I have already to do this.

Please see the bottom post

Do you have a HD DVD player?

Stelly
No, but I have hd footage on my computer that I would like to watch in full hd when using the tv. Also if I can get it to work, I would be interested in one of the combination hd-dvd/blu-ray drives so that I could use my pc as my player.

I think that you will need to upgrade to a new GTS..

HDCP short for high-bandwidth digital-content protection, a specification developed by Intel for protecting digital entertainment content that uses the DVI interface. HDCP encrypts the transmission of digital content between the video source, or transmitter -- such as a computer, DVD player or set-top box -- and the digital display, or receiver -- such as a monitor, television or projector. HDCP is not designed to prevent copying or recording of digital content but to protect the integrity of content as it is being transmitted.

Hmm, I just realised the that new GT and GTS both have the same ports and both are HDCP enabled:

- Designed For Extreme HD Gaming
- Nvidia Pure Video Technology
- Dedicated Video processors free the GPU Shaders to run 3D applications
- Dual dual-link DVI supports two 2560 x 1600 resolution displays
- HDCP Enabled!!
(taken from 8800gt description)

Would a DVI to HDMI cable be all I need?

Yes you can. The video part of an HDMI signal is the same as a DVI signal. The main difference is that HDMI transmits audio as well. Also HDMI max resolution is just 1920 x 1080 pixels and a DVI port is quite capable of sending that resolution.

Great, that answers a lot, but please see below: need to be sure before I buy the drive and tv.

If I fitted this player into my PC, connected it up to this tv:

Basically I read this:

Digital output is through DVI or HDMI on the PC. Every piece of hardware in the video chain needs to be DRM certified to allow for digital playback of protected HD content.
On the PC, Digital Rights Management (DRM) optical drive has to be AACS enabled, your video card and monitor have to be HDCP enabled.
Hardware Acceleration
HD video resolution is 1920x1080 pixels with 30 frames per second. HD video are compressed with V-1, H.264, or other codecs. Hardware is required for decompression.

Bearing in mind my graphics card supports hdcp, would the TV and the optical drive make watching blu-ray/hd-dvd possible? Ie do PC optical drives support AACS or whatever it is yet?
