Got my 360 :D I have bought an RGB scart as recommended by you folks, now do I pass through on my sky + box or do I connect straight to my AV (RGB) on the TV.
I will have 2 set ups to choose from TV, Sky box and 360, or TV, Sky box, 360 and stand alone DVD player (apparently the 360 is region locked). I have 2 scarts on my TV. 1 RGB, and 1 standard.
What is the best config for these please?

I am not sure that it will make an awful lot of difference will it?
I don't like pass throughs personally but I am not convinced that you'll notice a difference.
I think what you are really saying is "convince me to buy a larger TV with multiple HDMI and component inputs".
It is the best solution and can easily be justified by thinking of all the cash that you have not spent on smokes.
:)
I think i have spent roughly 4x as much cash using that excuse as I would have spent had I hadn't quit. Damn Allen Carr and his brain bending books.

Bless you VIRII, A new telly is on the New Years list :) Have a fantastic Christmas.
I was thinking Xbox ---TV (RGB AV1), DVD Player --- Sky+ ---AV2, or Xbox --- (RGB AV1) , Sky+ --- AV2.

I think you're right it wont make a difference :o
And yes you have the power to tap into my subconcious mind that created this thread just to have echoed back to me my true desires!! Sony Bravia ?hhmm

You don't really want anything running through AV2 as it'll just run in Composite mode, so will look pretty crap.

If you weren't going to replace the TV soon I'd say buy an RGB SCART switcher, though it may cost a fair amount for a decent one.

I'd take RGB passthrough over AV2 Composite any day.

So would that be 360 --- Sky+ --- AV1 (RGB)? I have bought the RGB scart cable for the Xbox, do I run this from the SKY+ to the TV or from the 360 to the Sky+ (Are all scarts RGB?) <--If so scrap the last question.
Thanks

I use a scart switch box and have everything Cable + Xbox 360 + xbox + VHS through AV1 on RGB.

They cost about a tenner and I highly recommend them. As for buying an HDTV unless you can afford a good one I wouldn't bother. I've pld on HDTV and while there is a difference from CRT, I think it is mostly what you would expect more clarity due to a higher rez. Although I did find there to be more jaggies, so there are pros and cons.

RGB will make a HUGE! diffence over RBG.

Thanks, looking at my original question, until I either upgrade TV or purchase a switch box, how would you connect up those devices, with and without the stand alone DVD player. I am sure at the moment my DVD player is hooked up directly to AV2 and I have never noticed a picture quality issue (maybe my 3rd eye is about to be sqweejeed)

360 -> Sky+ -> AV1
DVD Player -> AV2 (as you say you've never noticed a difference)

Quite often only AV1 on TVs is RGB, AV2 (&3) are usually Composite/S-Video only.

Composite isn't so bad for movies I find as you haven't got a lot of text, but with things like TV/Games the difference is night and day to me.

If the DVD player looks fine on AV2 and there aren't any issues with the 360 running through the Sky+ box (there shouldn't be), you won't even need a switch box.

Sorry for sidestepping your original question a little. Although I completely agree with Phil99.

Just put your 360 in av1 and you dvd though skybox and plug that into av2?
Yet if you can afford it I'd still get a switcher as RGB is just better! No colour bleed for example.

Just eBay one, they are so cheap. It really is worth picking one up. You could always get one from your local electronics store.

Bleh just get a new TV now :)
I have all my gear going through the AV amp on component and my DVD going direct to the TV on HDMI.

I'm not sure that you'll notice any difference whichever way you hook up for now, so if it was me I'd save the cash and hit the electronics stores on boxing day :D

Big TV > Small TV :)

Got it set up now :) Slight problem, nothing major though. I had a look at my config of scarts, and as it happens the VCR that I was taking out the equation was wired up to AV 1(RGB) on my TV. So I did a straight swap for my 360, leaving my multi region dvd player hooked up also. Basically I have it set:

360 --- TV (AV1 RGB), DVD ---Sky+---AV2.

With my VCR set up as the 360 now is, I had no problems with auto switch over of devices. Now if I turn the 360 on it swaps to AV1 and then switches to AV2 and I get a distorted image. If I select AV1 on my remote, it stays with the 360? Shutting down the console it swaps to AV2 no probs. Any ideas. Nothing major but I don't understand why it should behave differently to the VCR that was on the same scart.
Absolutely pants at GOW need mucho gamepad practice. To many years on mouse and keyboard :D
