Hi, what am I missing here?

I have connected the PCIe 6pin cable to the 6pin slot on the GPU but I get a message at boot up "Please power down and connect the PCIe power cables for this graphic card".

I have a 500W PSU and my old graphics card (Radeon 1950XTX) is working fine on the 6pin PCIe connection

PS: my system is an i7-4770k & 1 SSD, H60 cooler and no other devices so would have though the 500W supply is enough.

You can get adapters that convert 2 4 pin molexs into a PCIe adapter. There may be one in the GPU box.

Personally I would strongly advise you to invest in a better PSU.

ok good. Yeah i might just buy a decent PSU. Any thoughts on the correct PSU to buy. I would like a modular one as I have an mATX case

If you are going to stick with a single card then a good quality 500 - 650W will be ample. 750W and over if you want to go with a future multicard setup.
