Hi!

I have;
A desktop with all my music and files on, connected to the internet through a university VPN. It has a Netgear WG111v2 USB dongle attached.

I also have a laptop, HP, with built in wireless.

Can I connect the two so that they share the internet connection and I can control the desktop's iTunes from the laptop?

Maybe just use the laptop as a "control console" using a remote desktop or something?

Thanks for any help!

remote desktop connection?

or if you wanted to be able to use the net directly on the laptop im guessing to point the laptops network settings to use the desktop as a gateway and dns server.

dont quote me on that tho the networking experts will be along soon...

you need to set up an ad-hoc wireless network using the desktop as the gateway.

Never done it myself, but it should be relatively straight-forward, so yes it is possible :)

I would check out the manual for the desktops wireless adapter and look for "ad-hoc" - also hit Google and see what that throws up

Although you wont be able to use RDP to control the desktop's iTunes - you'll need to get onto the console using VNC (or perhaps RDP with the /console arguement)
