I have broadband to my computer upstairs with a standard modem. I want to be able to use my laptop downstairs. Can i get a pci card to fit in my main computer to wirelessly send the signal to the laptop which will have a wireless card in the pcmcia slot?
Or is there another alternative?
Regards

You could, but then you would have to have your main pc which is connected to your modem on if you would like to use the internet on your laptop :). Can be done, but a router is the more easy/expensive option.

it's more complicated but a better way would be to connect an access point to your PC. The connection will be more consistant than an Adhoc ICS setup. You'll still need ICS but using an AP will mean more than one wireless device can connect more easily and your signal will be stabler.

Yea, as Skilldibop said ICS is tricky. I had a pretty hard time with it when i had 2 computers and no router took me quite a while to get it working PROPERLY. Then i just bought a router and :D.

I wouldn't say it was tricky, but you do need to know a bit about networking and if not you can make a mess of it and then it can do funny stuff.
If you know what your doing it's straight forward really.

so you guys think i should buy a wireless router and use that instead of my adsl modem. Then i wont need to switch on my main comp cos the router is always on??? ( i'm a bit of a thicky with this sort of thing. Can you tell?)
