I've swapped out a Virgin Media hub for a Three 5G router. The VM hub went into an Asus rt-3200, in turn supporting a Powerline network to extend coverage through internal brick walls. I've set the Asus as an Access Point as most devices already connect to it. The Asus is currently connected via powerline adapters (AV-600) to the Three 5G router. There are three other AV-600 powerline plugs for various devices. It is too convoluted to run an ethernet cable directly as the router is in the loft and the access point on the ground floor. I get excellent upload/download speeds when connecting directly to the router (~400Mbps download) , however, this drops to a still acceptable 50Mbps if connecting via the access point (via 5Ghz). The bottleneck then appears to be the Router-->Access Point.
Is there a cost effective way to improve the connection between the Router and the Access Point that doesn't involve wiring? Or should I abandon the Access Point for another wireless solution?
