Hello ¬

I have decided to upgrade my system a little bit, by connecting a new TV to my PC. At the moment i am using the VGA connection it works fine.
To watch Blu Ray, I have read you need to use HDMI connection. I have tried watching Blu Ray on VGA connection and that did not work. The error message said "Your connection is not HDCP"
So I connected the TV to the PC using HDMI cable.

The problem is as soon as I connect the TV to PC using HDMI cable the quality goes bad... its sort of Blurred and hard to read. Tried all of the different settings, cables, etc. nothing...

My Graphics card is ATI HD 4870. The TV I am using is Toshiba 32bv702b. HDMI cable is good quality, I have checked it by connecting my Xbox 360 to the same TV and it works great.

I have used the software called CyberLink Advisor. That checks if my system is HDCP compatible. When using VGA connection everything passes except the connection type. So VGA connection is not HDCP compatible.
When I use HDMI cable connection. The same software said that I Pass on the Connection but the Graphics Card Driver Fails. Although When using the VGA the drivers are OK.
I have installed the latest up to date Catalyst Control 12.6

Anyone know what is happening, any advice would be greatly appreciated

Apart from it being blurry, can it play the Blu-Rays?

And what resolution is the TV set at? Wild guess but it's either not running at full native 1080p or the TV's not doing 1:1 pixel mapping.

No it cannot for some reason any software i try crashes when i go full screen. and just lags when i try to play it windowed mode.

:? do you have to set a TV resolution separately or do you mean setting it on the PC

I'm in the same boat as you lol. I've been using a 32 inch TV for about half a year now over my 19 inch 1280x1024 TFT I used to have. It's great the extra real estate and size. The pixels are a tad more visible but no where near enough to put me off switching back to a smaller size gaming TFT.

However, I recently bought a Blu ray drive and thought I'll switch to HDMI from VGA and just like you say the text is fuzzy/blurry/with a slight shadow. I've checked everything. Resolution, refresh, cleartype etc. A google of "hdmi text vga" brings up many results of others experiencing the same. The best result I've noticed is adjusting the sharpness of the TV but still the end result is unbearable. Given up now and back to VGA. I'm going to go for a 27inch 2560x1440 or 30 inch Dell in a few months.

Have you tried reinstalling the GPU drivers?

And yes, meant the PC setting. You could try play with the scaling options in CCC but I would try reinstalling the drivers first, sounds like the HDMI port on the 4870 is bugged if it crashes.

You could also try a DVI to HDMI adapter as well and see if that helps.

Yes i have tried reinstalling GPU drivers. No help Played with all possible setting but still no change

Check you have overscan turned off. It sometimes tries to cut off some of the edge pixels, but then ends up having to spread the rest of the pixels out across an uneven sized screen and ends up looking wrong because they don't scale properly.

Where is overscan ? how do i turn it off. the closest thing i found is Scaling options and mine are set to the default middle. between Underscan and Overscan.

Could also check the settings on the TV to see if there's a PC/Game mode or pixel mapping option for the HDMI port.

I have made a discovery... All this time I was turning on the TV First and then the PC. I have accidentally done it the other way around... After the ATI CCC loaded I have turned on the TV and the screen looks great.
If I restart the PC with the TV on it goes back to bad quality.
I have also figured out that it is to do with pixel mapping. When the quality is good I don't get that option on CCC and when the quality is bad I get the option to change pixel mapping. but they are all something like 4:4:4:4 RGP/PAL etc. and they don't do any difference...

My new question is Why is this happening the way it is and could this be changed:confused:? :D

Maybe it allows the TV to know it's connected to a PC? And turning the TV on first thinks anything on the HDMI is a normal HDMI device and not a PC... I have no idea :p.
