Hi, would like to bring Amazon tv stick/box into my older setup..if possible.
This is not for my main room, my gear in this room is..

Panasonic TH-42 PWD6 plasma ( would like to keep?)...old but it was bought at prime price in it's day....works fine and pic is good enough for me, though I read a few years ago guys improved pic with one of the HDfury's

Panasonic plasma is connected to ..Yamaha av receiver RX-V460rds via componant video

Also in the set up is a Topfield 5800 pvr

So the question ,can the Amazon firestick/box.....be connected with this set up ,or do i have to update ..say the Topfield to a smart tv box....no idea on this.
Thanks CJ

A HDFury 3 would be a better option.

HDFury 2 was good but had a few quirks that left some users frustrated. The HDFury 3 ironed out those issues. In particular, the image centring issue and being able to limit the output resolution to 1080i if required. I think your PW6 will accept 1080 at 50/60i and 24p via either RGB or Component and then scale down to the panel's native resolution.

Fury 3 has the same audio output options including digital audio at DD/DTS level.

Remember to get a power supply to go with it. There really isn't enough juice in the HDMI 5V rail to run the processing power of this scaler.

You could buy a second hand Panasonic plasma with HDMI for little more than the cost of that adaptor and skip the hassle, I know you said you wanted to keep the TV but I can't see the attraction.

I know what you mean ,wouldn't buy the hdfury at full price ,though I don't see any being sold used.....I am in no hurry

HDFury3 is €159~€179 (or $179) new from the sites that still stock it. The Euro price is the rough equivalent of £140~£160 plus shipping charges.

There are still a few HDFury 2 and 3 changing hands, but not many. The market has moved on. My guess is that anyone who needs this type of solution already has a Fury, so they're hanging on to it. I'm thinking of CRT projector owners in the main.

When something is in short supply and there's a ready market, then prices are going to hold firm. My gut feeling is that we've passed the time when you might have dropped on a Fury for £50, but there is a Fury3 on Ebay right now for £90 or Best Offer. That's not a bad deal. This could be one of those times when you just have to say "Sod it. It's only money" and just dive in.

Personally though I'd look at the opportunity to change the screen.

As good as the PW6 was in its day, things have moved on significantly. Later screens are native 1080p with support for 24Hz, HDMI, and better blacks too. There are still quite a few late-model Panny plasma owners swapping to OLEDs, so the chances are good that you could pick up something decent, but again the volumes are slowing down.

Some very good points for me to think about......just the thought of throwing a very good screen in the dump .
As good as the screen is, the connectivity is suffering. Stick it up on FB marketplace or gumtree for £100, state clearly it has no HDMI connections and someone will have it.
