I was thinking of buying a 24 inch monitor but the cheap LED ones with HDMI are out of my price range and don't have headphone jacks.

I could buy a HDMI to DVI adapter, but how exactly would this work? Would the ft on the screen, would it be grainy or something like that, I've read about it somewhere.

Secondly, Sound. My xbox has an Optical sound out (TOSLINK) but how would this work, as I have a normal set of 2.1 Speakers with a 3.5mm Jack and how would I connect my headphones to it?

Would it be possible to play on the xbox with me sitting so close to the screen? Would I have so sit further back, and if I didn't, how would I hold the controller while sitting at my desk.

Thanks.

I use my Xbox with a 24" monitor. Mine is native 1080P though not 1980x1200 so everything sits perfectly fine.

The quality should be spot on, I do sit back slightly when playing, probably 1.5m away. For sound I would get one of these:
