I assume (my Sister) needs a stereo to component (descrete left and right inputs) lead; not the stereo to stereo jack as in pic?

Yes, or add on a Female 3.5 to stereo (red and white) phono (not component) they can be had from anywhere but don't get ripped off as you are only talking a couple of quid at the most.
