Connecting DVD Player via HDMI to DVI

I've got a Panasonic DMR-EZ25EB, which has an HDMI port and is capable of upscaling and a Samsung SM940MW, which I'm using as a TV and has a DVI port.

Obviously, HDMI carries both audio and video, so while I could connect via an HDMI to DVI cable, I'll get no sound. Presumably (maybe a daft question), hooking up external speakers to the DVD player (it has a couple of audio out ports) will make no difference, as the sound will still go through the HDMI cable?

Otherwise, any suggestions or workarounds? If there are any, that is.

Cheers

Jon

i am fairly sure if you connect up the 2 phono sockets on the back of the(dvd recorder/panasonic?) it will output sound to an amp but not your tv when using the HDMI port
maybe invest in a set of pc speakers?powered ones :)
another thought what about one of those xbox cables? they have 2 phonos on the vga end

Does the TV not have a stereo sound input along with the DVI connection?

If so, just join the DVD player via HDMI-DVI and Phono-whatever input the TV has.
