connecting electric guitar to macbook

Hi guys, id like to know how to connect my electric guitar to my macbook, so i can have a play with 'Garage Band'. Is it something as simple as a 1/4 Stereo Socket to 3.5mm Stereo Plug Adaptor. Or do i need something else?

i'll have a look at that other one mentioned cuz things can always be done better but i've nothing against garage band so far...

So to use the audio in jack all i need is a 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter and just plug my guitar in and run garage band?

Yup, but as stated you won't get a very strong input signal. It's good for just practicing/playing around but if you're going to be recording it's best to put it through an external amp before lining into the computer.

Thanks for that, all i want is just a bit of a play around at the moment. So this sounds like the cheapest option.
