I'm probably being really stupid but I've connected the 3 pin connector from my new Antec TrueQuiet 140 to the mobo, molex not connected and it's not spinning.

My impression was it didn't need to be powered by the molex, similar to my 120mm fan powered by it's 3 pin. I've tried it in another socket, nothing, same result in the BIOS. Is it duff?

It could have something to do with the starting voltage of the fan. Raising voltage control to 100% should ensure it works.

You might be able to do this by changing the motherboard's fan connector in question to voltage controlled (if it has the option) instead of PWM controlled, in the BIOS.

If you state which motherboard it is, maybe someone will know the precise steps (if any). Hopefully it's not duff, but if it is you can get a 3-pin to molex adapter, which is usually best anyway (connecting non-PWM fans to PSU directly).

Is the mobo the one in your sig?

Fixed it! The 3 pin connector comes by default plugged into 3 pins with 2 cables splitting off to the molex connecter and 1 cable splitting off to another 3 pin plug.

Makes sense now that plugging in what I thought was a 3 pin plug was in fact only connected to 1 cable and waiting for power from the molex connector.

Aha. :)

Nice one mate. Glad you got it going.
