Connecting iPod Nano 4g to car stereo

Hi

New to iPods so apologies for my ignorance.

I am trying to connect an iPod Nano 8GB 4g to my VW Passat Aux. I have purchased a normal Aux to Aux lead, however to hear it I have to turn the car stereo up to double the normal volume. Is this normal?

The problem is when it is unplugged and you forget, it blows your eardrums!

Also, should you be able to change tracks/see song details using the stereo rather than the iPod itself? Nothing at the moment.

Was considering buying the LOGIC3 MIP142 iPod to 3.5mm Stereo Cable to see if this works better...

It's because one is line level, the other is not.

Ideally you want a lead that does audio out from the dock connector, although they're more expensive

OR

you can build / buy a small headphone amp to boost the signal from the iPod.

You wont be able to change tracks with that cable, you need a car stereo with a built in dock connector to do that.
