connecting ipod to stereo

I've connected my ipod to a denon hifi system by the red and white cables (phono or something I forget) but the problem is that everything is really really bassy and you can't tell what is being sung or anything its a musical mess. My friend had the same problem with a bose system aswell, is this a common problem and can it be fixed? I've messed with the EQ on both the ipod and the amp but to no avail.

I think the problem is because you're using the ipod microphone output rather than a dedicated line out.

You have to boost the amp more than normal and it all sounds, as you said, a musical mess.

I've not got round to it myself but you need to get a dock with a line out then the problem is solved.
