Connecting MacBook to Monitor

Probably a rather basic question, but I want to be able to use my MacBook when at home through my desktop monitor. If it works well, I may consider stop using the PC altogether, and just keep the MacBook closed and out of the way on the keyboard shelf of the desk (don't use it for a keyboard).

Can anyone point me in the direction of what I would need. Is it simply the mini DV to DV cable?
