Connecting Macbook to Monitor

I'd like to connect my Macbook to my 2001wfp via VGA. What connectors/cables would I need?

From what I gather, you need a Mini DVI to VGA adaptor and a male to male vga cable. Is this correct?

Gah, was hoping there would be a single cable that had a mini dvi connector at one end and a vga connector at the other. Oh well, thanks.

Is the apple store the best/only place to get the dvi to vga adaptor from or is there a generic brand version you can get?

I think you can only get them from apple or a licensed reseller. I don't think there are any compatible ones from other manufacturers. You might be able to get a bit of discount if you are a student. Also check ebay for some bargains.

I have seen some on ebay claiming to be genuine apple adaptors but how trustworthy do these tend to be?

How cheap are they? Is it worth getting one shipped over from HK or wherever rather than just getting one from a shop here?

Just had a quick look on ebay and the hong kong ones are about £10. they are only £15 from apple, i would buy it from apple because the delivery is quicker and i wouldn't mind spending the extra £5 to know it was genuine.

I would expect the foreign ones to be fake , i watched a program the other week about fakes in china etc and they do literally everything. Spend the extra, its not that much at the end of the day.

Thats what I was thinking, I'd much rather spend a tad more for a guarantee that it will get to me sooner than later and that its genuine.

Well your monitor should have come with a VGA cable anyways, so all you need is the apple one to hook it up to miniDVI.
(if your monitor didnt come with a cable , thats a bit rubbish!

It came with a DVI cable, not VGA.

My PC is using the DVI connector, so I can have them both connected and switch between the two.

Might i recommend just swapping the cables over, native res over vga on the 2001FP is particularly nasty (in my experience).

I just checked on the HE website for you and its £12.93, so you save yourself a couple of quid

, thats if you buy online though, not sure if the discount applies to stores in the real world.

What do you mean? Can a macbook not output 1680x1050 well?
