Connecting MBD connectors confusion

OK... maybe i'm being dumb but there is nothing in the manuals about this. I have a BeQuiet L8 PSU with the Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P which I'm in the process of installing now. The PSU has a cable which splits in to two, and I'm assuming both ends of this fit in to the motherboard connector? Seems odd why there are two though? And the CPU plugs are redundant I'm guessing?

I don't know about anyone else but bit more of a clue on the cable you are talking about? picture? how many pins does it have?

Edit: Some more thought on my part, I guess when you say splits into 2 you mean something along the lines of the 20+4 pin, or 4+4 pin or the gpu's 6+2 pin etc. CPU plugs? guessing 8 pin connecter? as that connects to top left from pcu socket (by the heat sinks)

There will be both a 24 pin (20+4pin, splits in 2 for older motherboards, much much older ones, both bits go in), and there is an 8 pin power connector to the rear of the I/O area. This may be comprised of either an 8pin, or a 4+4pin. Both bits go in.

There should be one two part plug from the PSU to connect to the MB, it's split in two because older motherboards had two (or was it four) less pins. The CPU needs it's own power and usually a PSU will have two four pin plugs to support older MB that only require one four pin or the later MB's that require an 8 pin CPU power connector.

Andi.

Ah OK. So the split CPU x2 4pin goes up near the CPU near the I/O area. The fact it was split threw me. My last PSU didn't have that.
