Hi guys,

First post on here and looking for some advice.

I'm in the process of updating my ancient desktop and I have just brought a motherboard (it doesn't have a HDMI port) and I'm trying to boot into the bios but I have no new monitor yet so I'm trying to use my HDTV for that, its an old Sony HD ready one. I have popped in my old graphics card which is basic but has a HDMI port and for some reason the TV won't display at all. I know it's booting fine and I don't have a VGA cable to hand either. I'm wondering how I can get it to auto detect the new display, I'm guessing its because the drivers for the graphics card haven't been installed yet...

Graphics card is ASUS Radeon HD 5450 1GB Silent, its rubbish but I just want to get it working first then I can purchase the next parts.

Thanks!

Having drivers for the gpu to get in bios
Irrelevant no drivers required to get in bios
Old graphic cards will not output on the HDMI port unless in windows and drivers present to detect the HDMI device
I am afraid you might have to get a VGA cable to get in bios
Or the TV goes to sleep before the GPU can detect it
It is possible so attempt to synchronize the devices
Restart the PC a second after you select the input on your TV

unplug the mains from your psu and pop the cmos battery out of the board for 5 or 10 mins. This should reset your BIOS to default settings, hopefully your default video out will be reset to "auto" and you'll get an image.

I use a 5450 purely in HDMI mode, mine works fine in the BIOS and on all screens.

Didn't have to set anything up, it's just always 'worked' perfectly.

Try another HDMI cable?
