Connecting my Laptop to the internet?

Hi all,

I bought a cheap laptop recently nv1005 (compaq).


I done a re-install of windows and want to connect it to the net so I can update drivers etc.

Im with blueyonder and I thought that now they dont require a mac address I could just unplugg the cable which goes into my PC's N.I.C and plugg it into the laptop, but I tried it and I get no internet pages.

Any ideas on what Im doing wrong?

You don't need to register the MAC address, but they still care about the MAC of the device that's connected to the modem.
You need to switch the modem off, switch it on, wait for the lights to settle down, then hook up the laptop. Then repeat to swap it back.
