Ive got a new router to use over the Plusnet one i was given which is Asus RT-AC1200G+, but ive noticed it doesnt have a port for the adsl to phone socket. A friend of mine says hes tried using adapters before but hasnt worked for him. An adapter from usb to RJ11 is available for £2 though. Has anyone else done this before or got it to work with something else?

Cheers

That's not going to work unfortunately. You will have to buy separate modem like Huawei HG612 or Drytek Vigor 130 and connect that to your new router.
You can also connect it to your Plusnet router and enable DMZ but that might give you double NAT problems in some circumstances.

That model doesn't have a built in modem, so you'll still need to use one.

I assume the upgrade is for features and Improved WiFi performance, so unless you're actually having WAN dropouts I'd just use the Plusnet one in modem mode.

Check out Asus' product page https://www.asus.com/Networking/RT-AC1200G-plus/

An HG612 modem from eBay will likely set you back £10-15 and solve your problem, it supports ADSL and VDSL once unlocked and it only takes about 2 minutes to do so.

Yeah for general connectivity and better all round and works like a charm, I guess i'll just have to try hide the plusnet router behind the sofa haha. Thanks for the replies everyone!
