connecting noctua fan to m/b

i have a noctua nh-u12f having at last got it installed on the m/b the power lead from the fan wont fir the cpu fan port on the m/b. it is a bfg 680i m/b.

so my question is does it matter which fan port i put it on?

How do you mean it doesn't fit?

the m/b cpu power bit is 4 pin and the one on the fan is 3 but the size is totaly different

3 pin fans plug into the 4 pin connector on the mobo.
