Cheers,

I know I can't just connect my PC to my TV using VGA interface, since the TV can't read VGA signal.
My main wish is that the TV will exactly act like a computer screen, that is, I'll turn on my PC and the image will be shown on my CRT TV,
without the need of enabling TV-OUT through the graphic card's driver. Therefore:

1. Is there really a graphic card with TV-OUT over VGA out there?
2. In case there isn't, would one of these help me?

or will it work, again, only if the graphic card has got TV-OUT over VGA option?

Thanks. :)

I think some old ATI cards could send the right signals over VGA, with just the use of a modified cable. There's a few guides on how to make that cable around, just google.
And yeah, that usb thing should work, but you can forget using your CRT for txt and surfing, as it would be really blurry. Video would look ok on it though.

Just out of curiosity why dont you want to use the tv out feature of the driver ?

I have one of my systems Crt TV set as primary monitor (via svhs output from card) and a lcd as the secondary. It works fine. As soon as windows boots everything is displayed as normal, but on the tv. I can switch on the lcd if I wish todo more detailed things.

using vista64 and nvidia card.

Whilst were on the subject of video outs and stuff, i use an Svideo cable from my nvidia graphics card to the tv. When i play a game, the resolution is too big for my 36" CRT tv. The only way round this is to reduce the game res to 800x600, but it looks awful. Is there a way i can play at my native res of 1440x900 on my 19" widescreen pc monitor AND on my tv at the same time?

Yep, its sole purpose is playing videos.

Well, I have tried it before - It didn't work for me. I'll try it again though. Thanks. :)

Thanks everyone. :)

You can use a vga -> scart RGB cable, but it needs a carefully setup custom resolution on the graphics card. A Pal TV can do 720x576 resolution, the scan rates are a bit odd though, but quite a few graphics cards can manage it. Its pretty much the only way to get a non blurry picture, composite and svideo suck compared to a true RGB connection.

Unfortunalty I dont believe there is a "commercial" VGA/Scart convertor, you bascially have to solder it up yourself. If you suceed you will still have a low "standard def" resolution, but text will be clearly defigned, without scaling artifacts (just very big)

With a more modern TV, VGA, Componant, and HDMI inputs all make connecting the PC to the TV trivial.
