I am using windows 7 and a GTS450. I am connected to the HDMI on the graphics card and also connected to the HDMI in on the TV. The TV is a Sony KDL 23B4050. The TV is being seen in the change resolution options in windows and says the recommended resolution is 1360 * 768. I have it set to extend these displays.

I am not getting anything on my TV though. In the options on the TV I have TV, AV1, AV2, AV3, AV4, AV5 and PC. So I am assuming I should be choosing PC. When I choose PC I get a no sync error message.

Anybody any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

Also I have noticed once the HDMI cable plugs into my graphics card I loose sound on my PC speakers. Is that normal? Can I have sound coming from both TV and PC with the HDMI cable connected?

It won't be PC, pc is for the TV's VGA socket, it will be one of the AV ones for HDMI. Also sound goes through HDMI so I imagine it is cutting the speaker socket out. You might be able to configure it to do both though.

It won't be the pc input, that would be for a vga cable. The HDMI port you plug into should have a label, probably one of the AVs.

As for the sound you can choose one or the other, right click on the speaker in your system tray and click playback devices.

Thanks for the replies. I think I have found out it is AV4 I should be using on the TV. When I try AV 1, 2, 3, and 5 nothing happens. If I try AV4 I get an out of sync message. So I am assuming it is AV4 I should be using. Now my next issue is why I am getting the out of sync message?

As I have said windows is recognising the TV as a second monitor and lists it under display as Sony TV. I am using a 10M HDMI cable could that be the issue with the out of sync message?

So long as the HDMI cable is a half-decent decent quality then it should be OK with that length at that resolution. However, if you have a shorter HDMI cable to hand it may be worth testing it just to be certain.

My guess for your issues is that the resolution is not being recognised by the TV. I would suggest trying to set the TV's resolution to 1280x720 or 1366x768 and see if you have any more luck.

As for the sound cutting out, I think when you connect the HDMI it automatically switches the default audio device to the HDMI (away from your sound card). To remedy this, you should be able to go into control panel>sound and reset the default sound playback device to your speakers/sound card.

For a backup plan, do you have a VGA cable that is long enough?
