Im trying to connect my ps3 to my laptop, so i can stream music / videos etc from the laptop to the ps3 to display on the tv.

when i go to set it up from the ps3, it doesnt find anything. i tried turning on file sharing in wmp11 but that doesnt pick anything up either.

both are connected via wireless to a router.

any ideas?

Firstly ensure that media center discovery is enabled in the network options on your PS3.

Also, sorry to ask the obvious, but i assume you've added relevant files to the library to be shared?

If all else fails, try a free 3rd party app like tversity in order to diagnose whether its an application specific issue or a network issue

If you have a Linksys WRT54G, you'll get problems - trust me, I had when I tried streaming MP11 to the PS3, it was very hit and miss; most information I found about issues pointed to the router.

I have since gone to the Linux version of said router (GS?), but have no desire to stream stuff at present :D

Scort.

using a bt home hub at the moment with laptops built in wireless.

on the instructions on the ps3, it days to turn on filesharing in wmp11 and select the device to share it with. when you enable filesharing, no devices are actually listed so cant get past that stage.

Ahhh ok, click the 'Settings' button just above the panel where it should list devices.

This will open a new window, at the bottom of which you will see a tickbox saying:

Allow new devices and computers automatically

tick that.

Your media server should then appear on your PS3
