Connecting PS3 to X-Fi

Hi,

I need to buy a cable to connect my PS3 to my X-fi Extrememusic, which is connected to my 5.1 speakers.

Can anyone confirm if the below item is what i need?

ok so i bought a cable, now im tearing my hair out as i cant set it up properly.

I've plugged it from the optical out in the back of the ps3 to the digital I/O slot on the back of the x-fi extrememusic. Now all i get is buzzing sounds through my speakers and no audio (trying mp3's on the PS3)

i've been fiddling around for the past hour but cant get it to work!!!!!!

have you set recording source to spdif in? Can you enable monitoring or anything like the Xonar?

i give up...it obviously doesnt work on my crappy soundcard.

Can anyone reccommend a set of 5.1 speakers with an optical in slot?

the port on the back of the xtreme music is an spdif output isnt it?

no It's an input and output, or at least you can get something that connects to the flexijack and gives that connectivity.

well if the card accepts input then how do i get the optical cable to work? the end that goes into the PS3 is optical, and theres an adapter on the end that goes into the x-fi. The x-fi accepts the cable reporting 2ch 44.1 khz input etc, but all that comes out of the speakers is high pitched squealing noises
