I'm not having any luck getting my 360 to recognise my PC.

I've followed the instructions on http://xbox.com/pcsetup; installed WMP11.. but.. when I go to 'Media Sharing', I don't get any new options when I check the box.

The 360 connects to Live fine, that works well... but I can't get the 360 to see the PC, can't get the PC to see the 360.

I'm using XP Pro, btw, with all the relevant ports open on the router firewall.

Any ideas?

Wired (both connected to the router, both can get online, both show up on the router - DG834G)

No software firewall, Windows firewall off.

Tried port forwarding. Still nothing.

Got it.

For some reason, UPnP was disabled on my PC. Enabled it and it worked fine.

Is there a set list to what audio/image/video formats it supports?

As far as using the 360 for playing mpeg4 videos its a waste of time untill it gets hacked! It will only support crappy wmv's anything else has to be transcoded on the fly which means the PC your streaming from needs to be pretty beefy espcially if it's a HD Mpeg4. Not to mention the vast waste of energy required to do this!!
Building a cheap media PC is a far better option untill it gets hacked imho.

I went down the media centre route as you can only playback videos from the local hard drive using zune. As mentioned before i need to run transcode to play any avi's which although is pretty good is bloody annoying if you want to skip 1/2 way into the film. I'm running it on a dedicated box which is an AMD 3200+ with 1 gig of 4200 memory and a 7200rpm disk.

im having problems getting mine to conect with vista media center. basicaly ive set it all up and the pc recognised the xbox and xbox recognised the pc, but i wont connect to media center instead it just says, it was unable to prepare a connection with the pc, please restart  .

im running it through a ethernet switch. and have a d-link router downstairs
