Connecting to a unsecured wireless network, is data secure

Just a quick query whether or not the data transmitted when connected to an unsecured wireless network at work would be safe?

Unfortunately we have no choice, its a wireless access point to part of work for customers to use. We wanted to setup an account on an online ordering website now but will just wait until we are cabled to the router then
