I've just had a dedicated server set up by a hosting company and have just finished installing VMWare server and installing W7 as a virtual machine. The server itself is Windows 2008 Server. The software we intend to operate from the Virtual Server needs to communicate with various other PC's which have a standard ADSL line. What networking options should I select for virtual server, NAT or Bridged. The dedicated server has it's own IP Address I would like to use this IP address for the other PC's to communicate with the server. Are there any other settings I need to look at to achieve this?

Both options will give you internet access.

NAT is a more secure option than Bridged and it would also be more applicable to use if you intend setting up more VM's in the future.

Bridged networking requires an additional IP address on the host's (external) network. This might incure an additional cost from the hosting company.

You will need to configure port forwarding on your server to reach the windows 7 machine externally. These settings are normally in the Network adapter settings and the Windows Firewall.
