Ive just installed a netgear wrgr614uk wireless router and although the "wired" side of things is working fine im having problems with my laptop and the "wireless" side. The laptop detected the wireless connection straight away(no problems there) but i cnat view any web pages or indeed connect to the internet through it. I i try and view a web page it says its unavailable. So what else do i have to do to get the wireless network running ??????

Do you get an IP address when connected to the wireless? I've seen it loads of times where the PC says it is connected to the network but due to a mistyped WEP/WPA key it actually isn't.

Ok you will have to forgive me for my ignorance but this is the first "wireless" network i have tried to set up. In the router set up i left the security disabled whilst i tested it with the laptop to rule out the problem with any misstyped keys so im guessing that shouldnt be a problem. When i check the network connections i see two connections connected under lan or high speed internet. One is 1394 Net Adapter#2 ( there is no ip or gateway address for this)
Two is Wireless Network Connection intel(r)wireless 2200bg (this has an IP address submask address and default gateway address) Both of these are showing status as connected

Ok, so with security disabled you can ignore what I said. Ignore the 1394 adapter - that's your fireware card.

What IP address and so on does it have for the Wireless 2200BG card? Assuming is isn't something like 169.254.x.x with 255.255.0.0 as the subnet then everything should be working.

The IP address is and internal one and it is 192.168.1.3 and subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

ok, now when i try and access a web page it says "Forbidden You were denied access because Access denied by access control list

Right then...........it appears it is only the internet ( webpages) that i cannot view, i have just checked my email and that is working fine.

Ive managed to fix the problem - thanks very much for your help and time. I had overlooked the lan settings in the contol panel>internet options>tools>connections>lan options.
once again thanks for you help
