In my spare room I have a PC and a Laptop that is hooked up to a 32" TV. I share video's etc so that I can just watch what I want on the laptop that is usually stored on the PC!

I have the two connected via a crossover cable, I can't seem to get the network to identify a network. On XP I used all the same connections that I did for my wireless config, so subnet, gateway and DNS all the same. Obviously amending the IP to be different.

When I do this now I get a message saying duplicating the gateway is not recommended, and the status of the ether connection is always "identifying" rather than connected.

Any ideas how I can get past this? I had no problems with the same setup on xp.

Thanks

Right I've fixed this now.

Now I'm having problems sharing thins on the network.

On XP, I had my Documents shared. Everytime I try clicking on the PC that I want to access it display \\PC is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource...

I've Shared the Documents, but not sure if it's shared just on the PC and not the network.

Can someone talk me through it?
